…I will be careful to lead a blameless life.. Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil. I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the LORD.
Psalm 101 (excerpts)

While listening to a message by Pastor Toure Roberts of ONE Church, he made a profound statement that will form the foundation of this post. “An atmosphere is a magnet”. His message was to say that we are influenced, and impacted by the people, places and things closest to us.

The universe worshippers / new age people believe that they attract what they have spoken into the universe or world. They think that they can manifest what they desire simply by saying it. Though they are wrong, something is “right” about the approach of calling things forth.

Calling things forth—aka Declarations— are backed by the spirit world. What people call "energy" is the spirit of a place or thing. Humans are spirit beings, with a soul, living in a body.

Also, our physical body draws an atmosphere . Take for instance. You go to watch a movie in a cinema with dim to no lights (except from the screen). During the movie showing, your mind and body are immersed into that reality and experience. There is mostly silence from people around and minimal disturbances. The atmosphere of that cinema has pulled you in. You have briefly become quieter. Reflective. Sober. Amazed, thrilled (depending on what you just watched). But the moment the movie is over, you have to leave the theatre room back to the real world/self. Have you noticed how your eyes, mind and body find it hard to adjust the first few seconds?

Or, you go to a club at night with dark and/or multi-colored lights, half naked people, loud, lust, lewd music, over the top drinking, smoking, drug abuse, consensual and non consensual touching and near sex acts. You are also exposed to the disregard of money, abuse of power, envy, need to make others jealous, affluence and greed. No matter how “good” you are, or well intended, you will be pulled into that environment. I know these experiences because I have lived them.

Imagine a magnet as a magical object that has invisible lines of force around it. These lines of force are what we call magnetic fields (which can be spiritual and physical). When you bring another magnetic object, like a piece of iron, close to the magnet, these invisible lines of force start pulling on the iron.

Humans, I believe, are susceptible to magnetic objects that will attach themselves to anything that can pull us the hardest. Which is why our source and greatest pull has to be towards God. The spirit you attract is akin to the atmosphere you are around. The behaviour you want to attract is first controlled by what force holds you the strongest, and you will attract likewise.

Now, a disclaimer. Because we (believers of our Lord Jesus Christ) are the light of the world, we are going to be visible and perhaps accessible to any and everyone. When this happens, remember to push away or repel atmospheres that do not glorify God, no matter how much you desire it or them. Then, cling hard to atmospheres that show you and allow you to show others the true nature of God.

Choose what clings to you and what doesn’t. Choose your atmosphere- spirit and flesh. Choose Jesus
